Fire Sprinkler Meters, Upgrades, and Hydrant Meters

WHEN ARE NEW WATER METER INSTALLATIONS ALLOWED?

While installation of new water meters is not allowed in the Cal-Am Water System under the State Water Resources Control Board’s Cease and Desist Order (CDO), there are some instances where a new, additional, or larger sized water meter is allowed. These uses include the following:

Application for Permit for Fire Suppression System, Meter Enlargement or Meter Split. Cal-Am may approve meter enlargements for sprinkler systems when there is a Water Permit for a project on file at the District. Meter Splits are approved for multi-family dwellings and for situations where more than one water user is being served by a single meter.

Water Meter for Fire Suppression Systems for Private Well Users. Cal-Am will provide a fire service connection/meter for well-served properties that are located in their service area.

Hydrant or Construction Meter Application for projects within the Main Cal-Am System.
