The Monterey Peninsula Water Management District (MPWMD) has been honored by the WateReuse Association of California’s Medium Agency of the Year Award for their work on the Pure Water Monterey Project. The District, along with project partner Monterey One Water was presented the award at the Association’s 2018 Annual Conference.

“The Monterey Peninsula Water Management District has been involved in the approval and financing of our region’s water supply projects since the early 1980’s,” commented Andrew Clarke, MPWMD Board Chairman. “The Pure Water Monterey project is just the next step in a long line of projects that either provide new sources of water or reduce our dependence groundwater supplies. We ate truly honored to receive this prestigious award from WateReuse CA.

The WateReuse Association is a nationally recognized industry advocacy group that promotes the development and expansion of water reuse, recharge and purification projects in North America. The Medium Agency of the year award recognizes projects and their agencies that produce between 1,000 and 5,000 acre-feet of beneficial reuse per year. The Pure Water Monterey Project will begin delivery of 3,500 acre feet of purified water in mid to late 2019.

“Pure Water Monterey is an innovative potable reuse project that has multiple benefits for the entire region,” added David J. Stoldt, MPWMD General Manager. “In partnering with Monterey One Water on this, we saw the opportunity to advance the project past the concept stage and solidify it as a solution to the Peninsula’s water supply issues.”
